Academic Details : Danie Shajie.A completed his B.Tech in Biotechnology from Karunya University in the year of 2009. He has completed his Masters in Food Processing & Engineering from Karunya University in year 2011 on the thesis topic “Extraction of protein enriched flour from deoiled sesame and sunflower cake and its utilization”
He is currently pursuing his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. The thrust area of research is “Formulation, Processing, Packaging and Shelf-life Evaluation of Ready to Eat Therapeutic Food (RTE-TF) for Malnourished Children”
Area of Work : Formulation, Processing, Packaging and Shelf-life Evaluation of Ready to Eat Therapeutic Food (RTE-TF) for Malnourished Children
Malnutrition is a major public-health problem throughout the developing world and is an underlying factor in over 50% of the 10-11 million children under five years of age who die each year of preventable causes. Half of all newborns born in India are malnourished and 30% are born underweight making them more vulnerable to further malnutrition and disease. The National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau revealed that the specific cause for malnutrition is due to inadequate consumption of micro and macro nutrients. The urgent research issues/aims relating to rehabilitation of malnourished children. My current research is divided into four phases. Phase 1 is to formulate suitable ready to eat therapeutic food (RTE-TF) for the children suffering from malnutrition. Phase 2 is the Development of process technology for processing and packaging of RTE-TF. Phase 3 is to study the physicochemical characterization, sensory quality and clinical potentiality of the developed RTE-TF. Phase 4 deals with Stability and Shelf-life studies of the developed RTE-TF.
